Speedo Sectionals March 23-26 Ithaca, NY Eats

Are you heading to Speedo Sectionals in Ithaca New York on March 23-26, 2023 at Ithaca College? Do you know healthy places to get food at? I’m here to share all the best restaurants to get your food at this meet so you are properly fueled and prepared to race. Below you will find a list of great places to eat during your stay! 

Wegmans

500 S Meadow St, Ithaca, NY 14850

Are you looking for a grocery store to shop at? Wegmans is a great place to pick up any snacks, fruits, veggies, and meals if you are staying at a hotel or airbnb that you will be cooking for yourself. Make sure to stop by this local grocery store.

Coltivare

235 S Cayuga St, Ithaca, NY 14850

This restaurant is the culinary center for Tompkins Cortland Community College in downtown Ithaca. They use fresh, local ingredients and have a seasonal menu for a “farm to bistro” style restaurant. This will be a fun experience with delicious food. Some good things to try are:

-Parpadelle Pasta with spring veggies, butternut squash & coconut sauce

-Salmon with black currant and orange glaze with a rice medley and fall veggies

-Roasted Chicken with Cajun Rice with seasonal veggies and BBQ chicken demiglace

Simeon’s American Bistro

Ithaca Commons 224 E State St, Ithaca, NY 14850

This restaurant serves brunch, lunch and dinner and is a relaxing environment to eat at, great for visitors and has high quality food. Might be a great option for brunch after competing in prelims as well as lunch or dinner. Some things to try on the menu are:

-Miso Glazed Salmon with jasmine rice, coconut rest curry sauce, green beans, carrots and bell peppers

-Chicken Parmesan made with homemade linguine, greens, tomatoes, garlic and olive oil

-Greek Omelet with spinach, tomatoes, onions, feta, mozzarella, dill sour cream and breakfast potatoes 

The Boatyard

525 Old Taughannock Blvd, Ithaca, NY 14850

This restaurant is an american restaurant with an asian inspired mix of dishes. There are wonderful views right on the water too! Who doesn’t love having a meal on the water? Here are some things to try on the menu:

-Woodfired Chicken Pasta with cavatappi pasta, smoked gouda, spinach, broccoli, onions, peppers, tomatoes

-Georgia Peach Grilled Chicken with sweet potato mash, peach chutney, and fresh veggies

-Parmesan Crusted Salmon with seasoned rice, vodka sauce, and dressed mixed greens

Loumies

114 Dryden Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850

Loumies is a fun and quick healthier option for Levantine home cooking and takeout with beans, lentils and legumes. Some things to try on the menu are:

-Chicken Sumac Sandwich with chicken breast, onions, sumac, cucumber and olive oil

-Hummus Sandwich with hummus, tomato, cucumber and olive oil

-7 Spice Chicken with roasted chicken and lebanese spice mix that is served over rice

– You can make your meals a combo with a sandwich and soup or soup and fatayer

Swimmers attending this meet will more than likely be having breakfast buffet style at their hotel. It is important to choose breakfast foods with high-carbohydrate and protein combinations. Here are some good breakfast buffet ideas:

Oatmeal with toppings (banana, nuts, any nut butter, chia seeds, flax seeds etc)

Eggs with toast along with some oatmeal

Bagel with nut butter, banana, mixed berries (some sort of fruit option)

Waffle with eggs and fruit option (banana, apple, berries, orange)

Don’t forget 10-20 oz of water

If your hotel does not provide breakfast, make sure to stop by the nearest grocery store. Your room should have a microwave and hopefully a fridge. Try one of the above breakfast ideas for a quick easy meal before you head to the pool for prelims.

Rice Cake

Handful of Grapes

½ Lara Bar

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

Hydrate: Water, Nuun Electrolyte Drink, or Harmless Harvest Coconut Water

***Note: Recovery food is very important post-race. Immediately after your last race of the session be sure to have a protein shake or Bar with equal carbs and equal protein. Good Options are: Lara Protein, Primal Kitchen Protein Bar and RX Layers Bar. You can even pick up some protein shakes from the grocery store. Look for the brands Evolve and Core Power.
